Wrestling Drops 50-3 Decision to NYU on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team dropped a 50-3 decision to New York University on Senior Day at John J. Kelly Gymnasium.

Prior to the match, the Bears honored senior grapplers Christian Beer (Brewster, Mass.), Wilson Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde), Ryan Higgins (Billerica, Mass.), Ryan McCartney (Haverhill, Mass.), Edwin Morales (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Lucas Purpora (Lawrence, Mass.) as well as team manager Andrew Lopez (Billerica, Mass.).

The heavyweight Higgins picked up Bridgewater's lone victory of the afternoon as he posted a 6-4 decision over NYU's Evan Anderson. Anderson entered the bout ranked fourth among the heavyweights in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Northeast Poll.

Higgins (9-4) is now 74-34 in four seasons at BSU. He moved into sole possession of 16th place on the Bears' all-time wins list.

Beer, Gomes and Morales did not compete in the match.

NYU entered the match ranked 24th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Division III tournament rankings.

The Bears (2-9) travel to Rhode Island College on Friday evening for a tri-match with the host Anchormen and Trinity College. The tri-match is slated to get underway at five o'clock.
