Wrestling Falls to #5 Johnson & Wales, 43-11
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The nationally ranked Johnson & Wales University wrestling team posted a 43-11 victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday at the John. J. Kelly Gymnasium in Bridgewater.
 
The Wildcats (17-3) entered the match ranked fifth in all of Division III in the most recent Open Mat NCAA Division III Dual Meet Poll. Johnson & Wales captured eight of the ten weight classes including three pins and three technical falls.
 
Senior Wilson Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) got the Bears on the board with a 17-0 (3:52) technical fall victory over Christian Rivas at 133 as he improved to 18-4 on the season. The win marked the 70t of Gomes' career as he tied Doug CurrierRicky Caruso and BSU Hall of Famer Gary Kruskall for 16th place on the Bears' all-time wins list.
 
Senior 184-pounder Edwin Morales (Philadelphia, Pa.) pinned Ky'Ell Roper in just 54 seconds. Morales improves to 3-0 on the season with his third straight win by fall. The two-time NCAA qualifier is also 52-10 in three season in a BSU uniform with 16 pins.
 
The Bears (0-4) off until Sunday, January 22nd when they travel to Springfield College for the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Tournament. The tournament is slated to get underway at 9:30 AM.
