Wrestling Competes at NEWA Futures Tournament

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Seven members of the Brodgewater State University wrestling team competed at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University on Sunday.

Junior Colin Harty (Plymouth, Mass.) went 2-2 out of the 157-pound weight class to lead the Bears. Harty posted a 6-3 decision over Connor Griffin of Norwich University in the opening round of the tournament. He also added a 10-5 decision over teammate Declan Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) in the consolation round.

Heaslip finished 1-2 at 157 with a 9-4 decision over Matt Assael of WPI.

BSU finished in tenth place with four team points. Host Roger Williams placed first with 192.5 points, while Johnson & Wales University (182.5 pts.) and WPI (93 pts.) rounded out the top three.

Next weekend, the BSU wrestling team will compete at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regioanl Tournament hosted by Springfield College.
