Wrestling Splits Tri-Match

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team split a tri-match with Trinity College and Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at John J. Kelly Gymnasium.

The Bears (3-13) posted a 30-15 victory over the Bantams of Trinity before dropping a tough 22-21 decision to the Anchormen of RIC. In the opening bout of the day, Trinity edged RIC by a margin of 30-25.

In the 30-15 win over Trinity, the Bears trailed 15-6 after four bouts with freshman Dylan Nuttall (Levittown, Pa.) picking up a win by fall at the 133-pound weight class.

Following a pin by BSU sophomore 157-pounder Matt Jiampetti (Egg Harbor City, N.J.), junior Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) tied the match up at 15-15 with a 9-3 decision at 165.

A pin by junior Jason Gebara (Brockton, Mass.) at 174 put the Bears on top, 21-15. Bridgewater closed out the match with three straight decisions by senior 184-pounder Casey Enderlin (Pasco, Wash.), junior Stephen Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) at 197 and heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.).

In the 22-21 setback to RIC, the Bears' comeback bid fell just short. Trailing 18-6 after six bouts, back-to-back forfeit wins at 174 and 184 evened the score at 18-18. The Anchormen posted a key major decision victory at 197 to reclaim the lead, 22-18. Arseneault posted a 4-0 decision in the final bout of the day to account for the final score of 22-21.

Arseneault, Enderlin, Gebara and Nuttall each finished 2-0 on the day to pace the Bears.

In upcoming action, several of the BSU grapplers will compete at the NEWA Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University on Sunday, February 21st.
