Arseneault, Nuttall Lead Wrestling at Aguiar Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Freshmen Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Dylan Nuttall (Levittown, Pa.) paced the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at the Jim Aguiar Invitational hosted by Plymouth State University on Sunday.

Arseneault and Nuttall both went 2-1 on the day and competed in the championship bouts of their respective weight classes.

Bridgewater State finished in fifth place in the team standings with 72 points. New York University captured the team title with 160.5 points while Williams College (151.5 pts.) and the University of Southern Maine (110 pts.) rounded out the top three.

The heavyweight Arseneault recorded a first period pin (1:09) against Plymouth State's Angel Escalante and then advanced to the championship match with a 10-7 decision over Kyle Paterson of NYU. Arsenault dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Mike Risti of the Southern Maine in the title bout.

Nuttall, competing at 133, opened the tournament with a pin (6:24) against Andrew Esquivel of MIT followed by a 12-2 major decision victory over Greg Zaw of Plymouth State. In the championship bout, Nuttall dropped a 4-2 decision in overtime to Austin Day of New York University.

Freshman Jake MacMillan (Brookline, Mass.) went 2-2 with a pair of pins out of the 141-pound weight class. McMillan pinned Mike Allen of Plymouth State in the first round and Scott Zimmerman of Plymouth State in the consolation round.

Sophomore Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) also finished with a 2-2 mark for the Bears wrestling at 149. Kerr pinned Matthew Wheeler of Southern Maine in the first period (1:19) to start the day and followed that up with a 16-0 technical fall victory over Kyle Fletcher of Plymouth State. He lost to Ian Burke of NYU in the semifinals by a margin of 7-2.

Junior Hunter Fogarty (Arlington, Mass.) went 3-2 also competing at 149. After dropping his opening bout, Fogarty won three straight matches capped off by a 7-4 decision over Plymouth State's Nick Simeti in the consolation semifinals. Fogarty lost by technical fall against Alex Pankhurst of Williams College in the third place match.

In upcoming action, the Bears host the New England Wrestling Association Dual Meet Tournament on Saturday starting at 10:00 AM.
