Wrestling Drops 25-21 Decision to Plymouth State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass – The Plymouth State University wrestling team posted a 25-21 dual meet victory over host Bridgewater State University on Friday evening at the Tinsley Center.

The visiting Panthers improve their dual meet record to 3-2 on the season, while the Bears slip to 0-6.

Plymouth jumped out to a 16-0 lead with a forfeit win at the 125-pound weight class followed by a 15-6 major decision victory by freshman Joey Aumann (Hopatcong, N.J.) at 133 and a first period pin (1:22) by freshman Greg Zaw (Sandwich, Mass.) at 141.

The Bears responded with three straight decisions by sophomore Matt Jiampetti (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) at 149, sophomore Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) at 157 and junior captain Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) at 165 to cut the deficit to 16-9.

Freshman Matt Froio (Cohasset, Mass.) extended the Panthers' advantage to 21-9 with a 15-0 technical fall win at 174. Junior Moises Diaz (Manchester, N.H.) then clinched the match with a 14-3 major decision victory at 184.

Following a forfeit win for the Bears at 197, BSU freshman heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a pin at 2:47 of the first period.

Both teams return to the mat on Sunday, January 17th as Plymouth State will be hosting the Jim Aguiar Invitational. Opening round matches are expected to get underway at 10:00 AM.
