Wrestling Competes at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team was in action during day one of the prestigious Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday.

Freshman 125-pounder Dylan Nuttall (Levittown, Pa.) was the only Bear who advanced to Saturday. Nuttall split his first two bouts of the day, both pins, to move to the consolation bracket. He then posted three straight decision victories including a 11-2 major over Michael Heck of Stevens Tech, a 9-2 win over Sasha Gonzalez of Stevens and a 6-4 triumph over Marshall Myers of host Messiah. Nuttall will take on Trent Gill of Mount Union in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.

Nuttall is now 14-5 on the season with three pins.

Sophomore Matt Jiampetti (Egg Harbor, N.J.) went 2-2 on the day out of the 149-pound weight class. Jiampetti recorded a 10-8 victory over Sam Delarge of Baldwin Wallace and a 9-3 victory over freshman teammate Andrew Szilagyi (Levittown, N.Y.) in the consolation bracket.

Szilagyi, senior 157-pounder Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.), freshman Nicholas DePedro (Franklin, Mass.) at 174 and freshman 197-pounder Chinaka Ekechukwu (Norwood, Mass.) all went 1-2 in their respective weight classes.

The Bears are in 12th place in the team standings with 17 points after day one. Host Messiah leads all teams with 112 points.
