Wrestling Falls to Johnson & Wales, 51-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The visiting Johnson & Wales University wrestling team posted a 51-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in a Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) match on Wednesday evening at Kelly Gymnasium.

The Wildcats (1-0, 1-0 PWL) were competing in their first dual meet of the season. The host Bears slip to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the PWL.

JWU won all ten bouts including four pins and a technical fall victory.

The Wildcats received wins by fall from junior Cody Beaudette (Cumberland, R.I.) at the 133-pound weight class, sophomore DJ Tirelli (Oradell, N.J.) at 141, senior Joey Gaccione (Highpoint, N.J.) at 157 and freshman Khamri Thomas (Windsor Lock, Conn.) at 197. Sophomore James Ryan (Dracut, Mass.) won 21-4 to earn the technical fall at 165.

In the most closely contested match of the evening, junior heavyweight Jonah Aurelio (Riverside, R.I.) edged BSU freshman Tom Arsenault (Lynnfield, Mass.), 4-3 in overtime. The bout was decided by overtime riding time.

Both teams are back in action this weekend. The Bears will grapple at the two-day Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while the Wildcats compete at the Spartan Invitational hosted by York College on Saturday.
