Wrestling Places 10th at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Freshman Dylan Nuttall (Levittown, Pa.) and junior Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) each placed in their respective weight class to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.

The Bears finished tenth in the team standing with 41 points.

Nuttall posted a 3-1 record to finish second in the 125-pound weight class. He posted a 6-2 opening round win over Luke Yankloski of SUNY-Corltand followed by a 4-3 decision over returning All-American Brian Amato of WPI. Nuttall earned a 9-5 overtime victory over Jay Albis of Johnson & Wales in the semifinals to advance to the championship match where he dropped a tough 10-7 overtime decision to Bobby Jordan of Johnson & Wales in the finals.

Cote placed third in the 157-pound weight class as he went 5-1 on the day. Cote opened with a 19-15 victory over Nicholas Jabs of Coast Guard before falling to eventual champion Ty Herzog of Johnson & Wales, 10-4, in the quarerfinals.

Cote won all four of his bouts in the consolation bracket capped off by an injury default victory over Evan Morgan of Ohio Northern in the third place match. Cote also picked up wins over Logan Via of Messiah (11-3), James Ryan of Johnson & Wales (4-3) and Carter Merecki of Roger Williams (5-4).

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they compete at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
