Sughrue Leads Wrestling at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Sophomore Paul Sughrue (Methuen, Mass.) placed second in the 133-pound weight class to lead the Bridgewater State Universit wrestling team at the RWU Invitational on Saturday.

Sughrue went 3-1 at the tournament with a pair of major decision victories as well as a 16-1 technical fall win.  He dropped a 5-0 decision to Nathaniel Giorgio of Coast Guard in the 133 championship bout.

Sughrue is 18-7 (.720) with five pins and three tech falls over his first two seasons at Brdgewater State.

Senior Andrew Gauthier (Lowell, Mass.) at 125 and sophomore Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) at 165 both finished 2-2 at the tournament with first round pins.

Freshman 133-pounder Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Adam Manzoni (Shohola, Pa.) at 197 each went 2-2 in their respective weight classes with a pair of consolation round victories.

The Bears placed ninth in the team standings with 32.5 points.  Messiah won the team title with 178.5 points, followed by Johnson & Wales University (165.0 pts.) and host Roger Williams (155.5 pts.).

Next Saturday, the Bears travel to Springfield College for the annual Doug Parker Invitational.
