BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Three Bridgewater State University student-athletes earned Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) All-Star honors as the league award winners were announced today.

Senior heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman 133-pounder Paul Sughrue (Methuen, Mass.) were both named as PWL First Team All-Stars.

Sophomore 157-pounder Matt Armano (Methuen, Mass.) was selected to the second team and also garnered Scholar-Athlete All-Star distinction.  To be named to the scholar-athlete all-star team, a wrestler must carry a minimum 3.0 grade point average, compete in at least half the PWL matches, and post a winning record in PWL matches.

In his first season of collegiate wrestling, Sughrue went 14-6 with five pins, two tech. falls and 36 takedowns before suffering a season-ending injury.

Armano finished the year with a record of 18-11 to go along with nine pins, 37 takedowns and six reversals.  The Physical Education major currently sports an impressive 3.51 GPA.
