Caruso Leads Wrestling at Coast Guard Tri-Match

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) won a pair of matches to pace the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at a tri-match hosted by Coast Guard Academy on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears (3-10) went 0-2 on the day with a 44-6 loss to WPI and a 40-8 setback to host Coast Guard.

Caruso picked up the Bears lone victory in the loss to WPI as he pinned Peter Salem at the 1:37 mark of the first period.  Caruso also recorded a 16-1 technical fall win over Kevin Painten of Coast Guard as he improved his win-loss record to 29-4 (.879) on the season.

Bridgewater's only other win on the afternoon came from sophomore Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) who earned a 6-5 decision over Coast Guard's Ben Greene at 165.

Coast Guard (6-9) edged WPI (11-9) by a score of 17-16 in the final match of the day snapping the Engineers' modest three-match winning streak.  The match was tightly-contested with eight of the ten bouts decided by decision.

Bridgewater returns to the mat on Saturday at noon when the Bears travel to Trinity College for a wrestling quad featuring Coast Guard, Rhode Island College and the host Bantams.
