Wrestling Posts 1-2 Mark at NEWA/Metro Duals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the NEWA/Metro Duals hosted by Williams College on Saturday.

The Bears (3-8) dropped a pair of decisions to Centenary College, 48-6, and The College of New Jersey, 35-13, before recording a 27-22 victory over Hunter College.

Senior heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the Bears' lone win in the loss to Centenary.  Caruso, who went 3-0 on the day, pinned Vinny Barber with 30 seconds remaining in the third period.

Caruso also notched a 3-1 decision over Patryk Kupczynski in BSU's 27-20 triumph over Hunter.  The Bears picked up three forfeit wins at 149, 174 and 197 in the win over Hunter as well as an injury default victory by freshman Kevin Pappadopoulos (Quincy, Mass.) at 141.

Junior Matthew Armano (Methuen, Mass.) earned a 10-8 decision at 157 over Nick Herring in the setback to The College of New Jersey, while Caruso produced a 14-2 major decision over Sigala Fosum. Pappadopoulos also won by forfeit at 141 as he went 2-0 on the day.

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they travel to WPI for a two o'clock match with the Engineers.
