Wrestling Drops Pair of Matches at AIC Tri-Match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team went 0-2 at a tri-match hosted by American International College on Sunday afternoon.  The Bears dropped a 35-13 decision to host AIC and then fell to Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) rival Southern Maine, 30-15.

Southern Maine finished 2-0 at the tri-match as the Huskies posted a 25-13 victory over AIC in the final match of the day.

Southern Maine improves to 3-1 (1-0 PWL) in dual meets on the season, while AIC goes to 2-3 overall and the Bears slip to 0-4 (0-2 PWL).

Senior Sean Fields (Norwalk, Conn.) led the way for Bridgewater State as he won both of his matches competing out of the 157-pound weight class.  Fields posted a 17-6 major decision victory over his opponent from AIC, and earned a 4-2 sudden victory win in overtime against his opponent from Southern Maine.

Sophomore Brett Reed (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshmen Tim Curtin-White (Milford, Mass.), Jason Pendergast (Methuen, Mass.) and Matt Small (Foxborough, Mass.) each finished 1-1 at the tri-match.

Reed notched a win by forfeit versus AIC at the 125-pound weight class, while Curtin-White grabbed a 6-4 decision at 174 against Southern Maine.  Pendergast pinned (3:47) his 141-pound opponent from Southern Maine, and Small won 7-2 out of the 197-pound weight class versus AIC.

The Bears are off until January 6th when they travel to Western New England University for a 1:00 PM match with the Golden Bears.
