BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team opened the 2012-2013 season at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.

The Bears did not place in the tournament.  Messiah College won the team title with 223.0 points, followed by host Roger Williams University (222.5 pts) in second place and Johnson & Wales University (209.5 pts.) in third.

Freshman Eric Bergeron (Brockton, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with three wins at the 149-pound weight class as he finished 3-2 at the tournament.  Classmate Jason Pendergast (Methuen, Mass.) went 2-2 at 141, while sophomore Matthew Bergeron (Brockton, Mass.) finished 2-2 at 165.

Next Saturday, the Bears compete at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
