Wrestling Falls to Roger Williams, 30-13

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Hawks of Roger Williams University downed host Bridgewater State University, 30-13, in Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) action on Wednesday evening at Kelly Gymnasium.

Roger Williams improves to 6-3 on the season in dual meet competition with a 2-1 mark in the PWL.  Bridgewater slips to 5-11 overall and 0-3 in league play.

The host Bears jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on a 2-0 decision by sophomore Jonathan Murray (Bay Shore, N.Y.) at 125 and a 15-2 major decision triumph by senior Ken Francis (New Bedford, Mass.) at 133.  Murray, ranked third in his weight class in the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) poll, defeated eighth ranked Dante Porrazzo (East Hanover, N.J.).

Roger Williams then took control of the match as the Hawks ripped off seven straight wins including pins by sophomore Conor Hayes (Old Bridge, N.J.) at 149 and junior Philip Ernst (Succasunna, N.J.) at 197 as well as a 15-0 technical fall victory by sophomore Collin Crowell (Hampstead, N.H.) at 165.

Junior Shane Parcel (Pine Brook, N.J.) edged BSU senior Michael Fenner (Bergenfield, N.J.), 3-2, in a matchup of the number two and number seven ranked wrestlers in the 184-pound weight class.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater travels to Boston University on Saturday to take on the host Terriers and Duke University starting at 3:00 PM.
