Wrestling Swept in Tri-Match with Southern Maine, AIC

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team dropped a pair of matches to AIC and host Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon. The Bears fell to Southern Maine, 32-14, in a Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) match and lost 35-9 to Division II AIC.

In the final bout of the day, AIC completed the sweep of the tri-match with a 30-13 victory over Southern Maine.  AIC evened out to 3-3 in dual meets with the pair of wins, while Bridgewater State falls to 1-8 (0-2 PWL).  USM is 1-1 (1-0 PWL) on the season as the host Huskies were competing in their first dual matches of the season.  

Sophomores Jonathan Murray (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) both finished 2-0 on the day for the Bears.  Murray, wrestling out of the 125-pound weight class, posted an 8-4 decision over his opponent from Southern Maine and pinned his AIC counterpart.  The heavyweight Caruso breezed to a 19-4 technical fall victory against USM and earned a 5-3 decision in the match versus AIC.  He is not 14-4 overall on the season.

Bridgewater is off until after the holidays.  The Bears host Western New England University in their next match on January 7th at noon.
