BRISTOL, R.I.-Senior 197-pounder Andrew Frazer (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) captured their respective weight class championships to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team to a sixth place finish at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday.
Frazer posted a 4-0 record at the tournament including a win by fall and a medical forfeit victory over sophomore teammate TJ Valle (Augusta, Maine) in the championship match.
Caruso also finished 4-0 with a win by fall en route to capturing the heavyweight title. He defeated Humphrey Swift of Johnson & Wales University, 4-3, in the championship bout.
Valle posted two wins by fall as well as a pair of wins by decision to advance to the 197-pound final. In the semifinals, he knocked off Phil Ernst of host Roger Williams, 3-1, in overtime.
Bridgewater totaled a score of 78.5 points on the day with Frazer, Caruso, Valle and sophomore Jonathan Murray (Bay Shore, N.Y.) accounting for the Bears' placewinners. Stevens Institute won the tournament with a score of 163.5 points.
Murray went 4-2 out of the 125-pound weight class with a win by fall. He defeated Danny Lethbridge of Messiah College in the fifth place match, 10-5.
In upcoming action, Bridgewater State will compete at the Olivet College Comet Duals on Saturday, November 19.
