Andrew Frazer Named NEWA Wrestler of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior 197-pounder Andrew Frazer has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Wrestler of the Week.

A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Frazer posted a perfect 4-0 record with two pins at the NEWA Dual Meet Tournament on Sunday. One of his two pins was against returning national runner-up and New England number one ranked Ryan Malo of Williams College.

Frazer, who led the Bears to a sixth place finish at the tournament, also pinned Max Walker of Coast Guard and posted a 14-3 major decision win over Western New England’s David Baldyga and a 10-3 decision over Adam Lynch of RIC.

Through 22 bouts this season, Frazer is sporting a record of 14-8 with seven pins, 18 takedowns, 25 escapes and 16 near falls.  He is currently tied for seventh in the Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) with his seven pins.

The Bridgewater State wrestling team is presently 6-8-1 in dual meets on the season and tied for first in the PWL with a 2-0-1 league record.  The Bears travel to Roger Williams University on Wednesday evening for a six o’clock match with the Hawks.
