BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Ricky Caruso has been selected as the Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) Rookie Wrestler of the Week.

Caruso went 4-2 and finished fourth in the heavyweight bracket at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational this past weekend, beating three of the top six seeds in his weight class. He knocked off number six Kevin Poplaski of Gettysburg, 5-2, third seeded Derick Hesson of Mount Union in overtime, 3-1, and number four James Lamonica of Oneonta State, 5-2.

In 17 bouts this season, Caruso has posted a record of 9-8 with 20 escapes and 18 takedowns to go along with one pin. He ranks first on the Bears in escapes and fourth in wins and takedowns.

The Bridgewater State wrestling team will travel to Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday night for a seven o’clock PWL match with the Wildcats.
