BRISTOL, R.I. – The visiting Bridgewater State University wrestling team coasted to a 34-7 victory over Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) rival Roger Williams University on Thursday night in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Bridgewater improves to 3-0-1 in the Pilgrim league and 7-8-1 overall this season, while RWU falls to 1-2 in the Pilgrim League and 6-11 overall.

Senior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.), the eighth ranked heavyweight wrestler in the nation, registered his 100th career victory for Roger Williams.  Cambi's victory was one of few bright spots for the Hawks as the Bears dominated the match.

Beginning with the first bout at 157, the Bears jumped out to an early lead with senior Steven Ciaccio's (West Milford, N.J.) win by fall at 4:55 and the team never looked back. A 12-2 major decision win at 165 by senior Ethan Raymond (Middlebury, Vt.) moved the score to 10-0.

In a tight 174 match RWU sophomore Shane Parcel (Pine Brook, N.J.) scored a takedown to take an 8-7 lead with six seconds remaining in the bout before senior Zachary Bates (Leyden, Mass.) scored a reversal before the buzzer to earn the 9-8 win.

Sophomore Philip Ernst (Succasunna, N.J.), wrestling at 184, was the only Hawk besides Cambi to score for RWU as he registered an 8-4 decision over BSU junior Michael Fenner (Bergenfield, N.J.).

Junior Andrew Frazer (West Hartford, Conn.) responed for the Bears with an 8-3 decision at 197, before Cambi recorded his 100th career win with a 10-0 major decision to make the score 16-7 in favor of Bridgewater State.

A forfeit at 125 and a 23-5 tech. fall win at 133 by freshman Steven McCarthy (Brockton, Mass.) increased Bridgewater's lead to 27-7.  Sophomore Jerry Joubert (Framingham, Mass.) followed with a 6-4 win and sophomore Sean Fields (Norwalk, Conn.) closed out the match with a 16-2 major decision victory.

Both teams return to action Saturday when the Bears host WPI at 2 p.m., while the Hawks finish Pilgrim League play hosting both the University of Southern Maine and Rhode Island College beginning at noon.
