BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- In Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) action, Bridgewater State University erased a seven-point deficit as the Bears posted a 27-13 victory over Coast Guard Academy on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

With the dual meet victory, Bridgewater improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the PWL.  Coast Guard slips to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in league matches.

After spotting the visitors a 13-6 lead through six bouts, Bridgewater State responded with back-to-back pins by junior 197-pounder Andrew Frazer (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) to take an 18-13 advantage.  Junior Ken Francis (New Bedford, Mass.) then sealed the win with a 3-2 decision at 125.  Sophomore Dan Palmer (Walpole, Mass.) capped off the scoring with a forfeit victory at 133.

Earlier in the match, the Bears grabbed a pair of decision from sophomore 149-pounder Sean Fields (Norwalk, Conn.) and senior Ethan Raymond (Middlebury, Vt.) at 165.  Fields won 5-2, while Raymond posted a 12-9 triumph.

Coast Guard received wins from freshman Scott Coull (Plymouth, Mass.) at 141, senior Andy Snyder (Tamaqua, Pa.) at 157, senior Will Stark (West Milford, N.J.) at 174 and sophomore 184-pounder Pat Leavitt (Leesport, Pa.).  Coull, Snyder and Leavitt all won by decision, while Stark earned a 10-1 major decision victory.

Bridgewater State returns to the mat on Saturday afternoon at one when the Bears take on Steven Institute of Technology and Delaware Valley College in a tri-match hosted by Stevens.  Coast Guard hosts a tri-match with the University of Southern Maine and Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, January 19th (5:00).
