BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team opened the 2010-2011 season with a pair of losses to host Boston University and Bloomsburg University. The Bears dropped a 37-9 decision to division one BU and fell to Bloomsburg by a margin of 45-0.
Junior Ken Francis (New Bedford, Mass.) and seniors Ethan Raymond (Middlebury, Vt.) and Zachary Bates (Leyden, Mass.) were the lone winners for the Bears against BU. Francis posted a 10-4 decision in the 125-poud weight class, while Raymond won 10-5 at 165 and Bates posted a 10-3 victory at 174.
Freshman heavyweight Ricky Caruso (Waltham, Mass.) dropped a couple of close matches in his collegiate debut. Caruso lost 3-1 to Kevin Innis of BU, and 2-0 to Zach Walsh of Blloomsburg.
Next Saturday, the Bears will travel to the Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, Rhode Island which gets underway at 10:00 AM.
