BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior John Marsh (New Bedford, MA) captured the 149-pound championship at the Springfield College Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday.
Marsh led the Bridgewater State wrestling team to an 11th place finish at the event as the Bears tallied a score of 53.0 points. Wlliams College won the overall team title with 136.0 points.
Marsh, who was named as the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler, posted a record of 5-0 with a win by fall (3:53) in the championship match versus Eliah Golding of Brockport State. He also knocked off Corey Paulish of Williams College, 11-5, in the semifinals to advance to the title bout.
Junior Zachary Bates (Leyden, MA) was the next highest placewinner for the Bears as he went 4-2 in the 174-pound weight class to finish in fifth place. He defeated Tyler LeBlanc of Springfield College, 10-5, in the fifth place match.
Also highlighting the tournament for the Bears was sophomore Ken Francis (New Bedford, MA) who posted a record of 3-2 in the 133-pound weight class.
