NEW LONDON, Conn. - In Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) action, the Bridgewater State College Bears edged host Coast Guard Academy, 24-23, this evening in New London, Connecticut.

With the dual meet victory, Bridgewater improves to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the PWL.  Coast Guard dips to 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in league matches.

After spotting the visitors a 6-0 lead with a forfeit at 125, Coast Guard responded with back-to-back major decision victories to jump ahead, 8-6.  Bridgewater State senior John Marsh (New Bedford, MA) notched a 20-5 technical fall win at 149 to put BSC back in front at 11-8.  A Coast Guard pin followed by an 11-6 decision by Bridgewater junior Ethan Raymond (Middlebury, VT) evened the match at 14 apiece.

Back-to-back pins by Coast Guard's Will Stark at 174 and Bridgewater sophomore Greg Tanny (Hudson, MA) at 184 kept the match all tied up at 20-20.  Junior Michael Aiken (Leyden, MA) then earned a 14-6 major decision win at 197 to give the visiting Bears a 24-20 lead with just one bout to go.  Coast Guard heavyweight Reese Mowery rounded out the scoring with an 8-6 decision as Bridgewater held on for the 24-23 match victory.

Bridgewater State will travel to Plymouth State University on Saturday for a quad meet. The Bears will take on host Plymouth at noon followed by Williams College at 4 PM and Norwich University at 6.
