John Marsh Named PWL Wrestler of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior 149-pounder John  Marsh (New Bedford, MA) has been named the Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) Wrestler of the Week.

A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, Marsh went 2-0 at the Trinity College quad meet last Friday.  He recorded his 100th career win with a 19-5 major decision victory over Kyle Muir of Trinity College and then  knocked off New England number three ranked Kevin Sutherland of Rhode Island College, 5-3.

In 27 bouts this season, Marsh has a record of 26-1 with 104 takedowns, 12 near falls, 11 escapes and six pins.  He currently leads the Pilgrim League in winning percentage (.963) and takedowns and is ninth in wins.

Marsh, who is ranked first in New England in the 149-pound weight class and fourth in all of Division III, now has 101 wins in his career at BSC which ranks him sixth all-time.

During his sophomore season of 2006-2007, Marsh set the Bears' singles-season records for wins with 47 and for takedowns with 137.  He earned New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) All-New New England honors in the 141-pound weight class and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
