CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College wrestling team dropped a pair of matches at a Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) tri-match with Roger Williams University and MIT on Wednesday night. The Bears lost to RWU, 31-12, and then bowed to host MIT by a margin of 27-23.
Sophomores Zachary Bates (Leyden, MA) and Ethan Raymond (Middlebury, VT), and freshman Ken Francis (New Bedford, MA) each went 2-0 for the Bears.
Wrestling in the 174-pound weight class, Bates posted a 3-1 decision over Kenny Ford of Roger Williams and then pinned MIT's Mike Gerhardt in 2:06. The 157-pound Raymond notched a second period pin (4:24) over RWU's Nick Allegretta and also recorded a 9-2 decision over Jaes Jones of MIT. Francis at 133 knocked off Jay Mahoney of Roger Williams, 10-4, and earned a 17-2 technical fall victory over MIT's Greg Wellman.
Francis has now won ten straight bouts and 12 of his last 13.
BSC drops to 2-10 in dual meets this season and 1-4 in the PWL standings. The Bears will look to snap an eight-match losing streak a week from Saturday (Feb. 7) as they host WPI at 2 PM.
