Four BSC Wrestlers Selected to PWL All-Star Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Pilgrim Wrestling League has announced the recipients of the 2009 league awards.  Bridgewater State College placed four different wrestlers on the first, second and honorable mention all-star teams as well as the scholar-athlete all-star team.

Representing BSC on the PWL All-Star First Team are freshman 133-pounder Ken Francis and sophomore 174-pounder Zachary Bates

A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, Francis posted a record of 27-10 in his rookie campaign with six pins and 46 takedowns.  He captured All-New England honors at the NEWA Championships as he placed second in the 133-pound weight class. Francis also strung together a 14-match winning streak during the course of the season.

Bates, who hails from Leyden, Massachusetts, completed the year with a record of 18-10 with three pins, 32 takedowns and nine reversals. He was also chosen to the PWL Scholar-Athlete All-Star Team as the econimics major currently sports an impressive 3.71 grade point average.

Sophomore Ethan Raymond was the only member of the Bears selected as a Second Team All-Star.  A Middlebury, Vermont native, Raymond won 19 bouts this season with 40 takedowns, nine reversals and six pins wrestling out of the 157-pound weight class.

Junior 149-pounder Frank Cammisa rounds out BSC's Pilgrim League All-Star selections.  Cammisa, who was the only member of the Bears' to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, completed the 2008-2009 season with a record of 23-5 with seven pins.  In three seasons at Bridgewater State, he has won a total of 82 matches which is good for sixth all-time in the school record books.  Cammisa also has 39 career pins to his credit which is tied for second all-time. He is also just one of just two wrestlers in program history to make three appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
