Zachary Bates Named PWL Wrestler of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore Zachary Bates has been selected as the Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) Wrestler of the Week.

Bates is the second BSC wrestler to earn the honor this season as junior Frank Cammisa (Danbury, CT) was selected as the PWL Wrestler of the Week back on November 24th.

A native of Leyden, Massachusetts, Bates posted a 2-0 record in BSC's tri-match sweep of Trinity College and PWL rival Rhode Island College this past weekend. The 174-pounder earned a forfeit win in the Bears' 30-22 win over Trinity.  He then knocked off the third-ranked wrestler in New England with a 4-2 win over RIC's Joe Manley to help the Bears pull off a 20-18 upset victory over the Anchormen.

In 24 bouts this season, Bates has posted a record of 16-4 with 32 takedowns, nine reversals and three pins.  He currently ranks third on the team in takedowns and reversals and is fourth in wins.

The Bridgewater State wrestling team wrapped up the dual meet schedule with an overall record of 4-11 including a 2-4 mark in the PWL. The Bears will compete in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) championships this upcoming weekend out at Springfield College
