GORHAM, Maine -- Seniors Tim Ferreira and Jim Quinlan, and sophomore Frank Cammisa, advanced to the winner's bracket final in their respective weight classes to lead the Bridgewater State College wrestling team at the 2008 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Division III Championships held at Southern Maine.

The Bears are currently in fifth place with 69 points at the championships.  BSC trails Springfield College (69.5), Williams College (70.5), Rhode Island College (83) and first place Johnson & Wales University (86).

Ferreira defeated Dan McLean of Southern Maine (23-8), Chris Brown of Springfield (2-1) and second seed Glenn Geesman of MIT (3-2) to advance to the winner's bracket final in the heavyweight class. Ferreira, who now has 103 wins in his career, will take on top seed Sean DeDeyn of Johnson & Wales.

Quinlan, wrestling at 184, recorded three straight pins on his way to a showdown tomorrow with top seeded Elliot Smith of Spingfield College.  Quinlan, who raised his BSC school record win total to 132, defeated Jesse Rayworth of Southern Maine (2:23), Alex Whitney of Norwich (4:33) and Bryan Lenhardt of Johnson & Wales (6:40). He also increased his record for career pins to 69.

Cammisa, ranked seventh in the country and seeded first in the 149-pound weight class, received a first round bye and then went on to defeat Derek Cohen of Trinty College, 9-0, and pinned Johnson & Wales' Rob Doherty (6:17). Cammisa (19-2) will take on Nick Miragliuolo of Williams College in the winner's bracket final.
