Frank Cammisa Named PWL Rookie Wrestler of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College freshman Frank Cammisa has been named the Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) Rookie Wrestler of the Week for his record setting performance in the Bears 22-15 win over Roger Williams University last week.

A native of Danbury, Connecticut, Cammisa helped lead the Bears to a Pilgrim League tri-match sweep of Roger Williams University and MIT last Wednesday night, as he knocked off RWU's Scott Pellerin in a battle of two of the top five ranked Division III New England wrestlers in the 149-pound weight class.  Cammisa, who did not wrestle in the Bears win over MIT, defeated Pellerin by a score of 5-0 to pick up his 27th win of the season. The 27 wins is a new BSC single-season freshman record surpassing James Quinlan's previous standard of 26 wins set during the 2004-2005 season.

Cammisa, who is the top ranked 149-pound wrestler in New England, currently sports a 27-8 record as he is second in the PWL in pins with 15, tied for eighth in wins with 27, and is ninth in the league with a .771 winning percentage. Cammisa has tied Quinlan's single-season mark for pins by a freshman with his 15, and he is also third overall at BSC for pins in a season.
