Women's Lacrosse Posts 16-11 Win Over Chatham in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team posted a 16-11 victory over Chatham University on Thursday afternoon at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Puerto Rico.

The Bears improve to 2-2 on the season with their second consecutive win. The Cougars fall to 1-2 with their second straight setback.

Junior attack Camryn Gonsalves (East Bridgewater, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with a season-high five goals while junior midfielder Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.) tallied three goals apiece.

Gonsalves potted four of her five markers in the first half as the Bears led 7-5 at the break. Bridgewater trailed 4-1 midway through the first quarter before reeling off four unanswered goals to close out the session. Gonsalves then tallied the first two goal of the second quarter to cap off the 6-0 run.

The Bears outscored the Cougars 6-2 in the third quarter to take a commanding 13-7 lead. Four of the goals came off the free positions. McIntyre and junior attack Katy Shaw (Centerville, Mass.) both scored twice in the period.

Gonsalves, Sylvia and senior attack Savannah Herrington (Kinnelon, N.J.) each found the back of the net in the fourth quarter to help put the finishing touches on the BSU win.

Bridgewater State will take on Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock in Puerto Rico. Chatham will take on RIT on Sunday afternoon also at three.
