Women's Lacrosse Posts 12-7 MASCAC Win Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Senior midfielder Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) tallied a goal and a career-high five assists to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 12-7 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Salem State University on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.

The Bears even their record at 7-7 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC, while the Vikings fall to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Bridgewater is 13-0 all-time versus Salem including a 7-0 mark on the road.

Sophomore midfielder Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) added three goals and a game-best six draw controls for the visitors. The Bears also received two goals apiece from senior midfielder Katie O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.), while graduate midfielder Hayley Carron (Hopedale, Mass.) registered a goal and two assists and sophomore attack Camryn Gonsalves (East Bridgewater, Mass.) checked in with a goal and an assist.

The Bears never trailed in the game and used an 8-0 first half run to take an 8-3 lead into the break. Langton notched a goal and four assists during the game-changing spurt, while O'Brien scored a pair of goals.

Back-to-back strikes by junior attack Erin Power (Byfield, Mass.) and McIntyre to open the third quarter as well as a player-advantage marker by McIntyre with just 13 seconds remaining in the period extended the BSU advantage to 11-4. The Vikings potted three of the four goals in the fourth quarter, including a pair from junior midfielder Madison White (Salem, Mass.), to account for the final score of 12-7.

White finished with three goals, three ground balls and three draw controls on the evening while senior midfielder Taylor Sujki (Revere, Mass.) led the Vikings with three goals and a helper.

Bridgewater held a 33-19 shot advantage for the game as well as a 14-9 edge in draw controls. The Bears successfully converted 14 of 15 clear attempts while the Vikings went 12-for-17 on the clear.

The two teams combined to go just 3-for-13 on free position attempts including a 2-for-9 clip for the Bears.

BSU senior netminder Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.) made four saves in 45 minutes of action to record her fourth win of the season. Junior Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) played the final period for the Bears and turned aside one shot.

Freshman keeper Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.) was busy between the pipes for the Vikings as she finished with 14 saves in the setback.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams later this week. The Bears entertain Framingham State University on Saturday evening at six o'clock, while the Vikings host Worcester State University on Friday night at seven.
