Women's Lacrosse Posts 20-8 Win over Worcester State on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a career-high seven goals and added an assist to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a decisive 20-8 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over visiting Worcester State University on Senior Day at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 8-5 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Lancers fall to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Sophomore attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) added four goals and three assists for the Bears, while senior attack Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) contributed three goals and three assists. Freshman attack Lacey Dinning (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) came off the bench to pot three goals and classmate Emily Hiller (Marion, Mass.) checked in with a goal and three helpers. Senior midfielder Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) dished out three assists.

Bridgewater led 11-6 at the break and the final score of 20-8 marked the biggest lead of the game. The Bears held a 37-24 shot advantage, including a 23-10 edge in the first half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) made 11 saves to record her eighth win of the season between the pipes for the Bears. Freshman netminder Chloe O'Brien (Sturbridge, Mass.) turned aside 11 shots in the setback for the Lancers.

BSU junior midfielder Lisa Moynihan (Norwood, Mass.) and Worcester senior midfielder Mackenzie Little (Marlborough, Mass.) registered eight draw controls apiece to lead all players. The Lancer finished with a 15-12 advantage in draws.

Moynihan netted her first goal of the season and second of her career with 21:20 remaining in the second half. Moynihan's goal capped off a 4-0 run and gave the Bears a comfortable ten-goal cushion (16-6) at the time.

Senior midfielder Haley Riley (Wakefield, Mass.) caused five turnovers and corralled four ground balls to highlight the Bears' defense, while senior defender Rachel Beers (Lexington, Mass.) forced a turnover and picked up a pair of ground balls. Riley also notched an assist.

Little scored four goals to pace the Worcester offense, and senior attack Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.) added a pair of markers.

Prior to the game, the Bears honored their four seniors, Beers, Buckner, Reinold and Riley, as well as team manager and former player Reile Plante (Feeding Hills, Mass.).

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Tuesday night at seven. The Bears entertain the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy, while the Lancers host the Trailblazers of MCLA.

Notes: McDonough is now tied for ninth all-time at Bridgewater State in assists with 70....Ettridge is now 12th all-time at BSU in goals with 126.
