Women's Lacrosse Edges UMass Dartmouth, 15-13

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team edged UMass Dartmouth, 15-13, on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

The Bears improve to 4-4 on the season, while the host Corsairs fall to 3-3.

Senior attack Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) tallied two goals and four assists to go along with five draw controls and a pair of ground balls to pace the visitors. 

Freshman attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) added three goals and two assists for the Bears, while sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) contributed three goals and a helper, and senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) added three markers.

Senior netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) turned aside 12 shots to record her third win of the season.

In a game which featured seven ties, UMass rallied from four goals down (13-9) with less than 13 minutes remaining as the Corsairs reeled off four straights goals to knot the score at 13-all.

Junior midfielder Leahy Douty (Framingham, Mass.) netted three unassisted tallies during the run, while freshman attack Gabby Giangrande (Westbrook, Conn.) scored the tying goal off an assist from Douty with 7:43 remaining.

Renauld set up Ettridge for the game-winner with just under five minutes left to play. Lynch scored on the free position with six seconds left to put the finishing touches on the win.

Senior defender Taylor Brown (Commack, N.Y.), junior midfielder Brooke Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.), junior attack Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman attack Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) also scored for the Bears with Reinold adding an assist. Brown also notched a team-best four ground balls to go along with a pair of draw controls.

Bridgewater built the 13-9 lead as McDonough potted the final two goals of the first half to break an 8-8 tied. The Bears then scored three of the first four goals of the second half with White, Reinold and Buckner finding the back of the net.

Douty paced the Corsairs with a game-high four goals, an assist, a game-best five ground balls and three draw controls. Giangrande chipped in with three goals, while junior midfielders Julia DiPillo (Medway, Mass.) and Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.), and senior attack Catrina Luongo (Billerica, Mass.) added two goals apiece. Luongo also recorded and assist.

Sophomore goaltender Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made 13 saves in the setback for the hosts.

Bridgewater held a 38-31 shot advantage, while UMass had the edge in ground balls (25-16) and draw controls (16-14). The Bears converted on just 4 of 10 free position attempts, while the Corsairs went 5-for-8.

Notes: With her four assists, Renauld increased her career total to 88 as she moved into a tie for fifth place on the Bears' all-time list.
