BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears edged the visiting Framingham State University Rams, 11-7, in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action on Thursday evening at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-0 in the NEWLA, while Framingham slips to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) paced the Bears with three goals and a pair of assists to go along with four draws, four caused turnovers and three ground balls.  Sophomore attack Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) added four goals, while senior midfielder Stephanie Lannon (Swampscott, Mass.) and junior midfielder Michelle Navoni (Mansfield, Mass.) notched two goals apiece.

Senior midfielder Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) led the way for the Rams with three goals, four ground balls, three draws and three caused turnovers.  Junior attack Chelsea Temple (Rutland, Vt.) also potted three goals for the visitors.

After an evenly played first half, the host Bears dominated possession and the scoreboard in the final stanza.  With the score tied at 6-6 at the intermission, Bridgewater would go on to limit Framingham to just one goal on one shot over the final 30 minutes of the contest.  The Bears held a 21-13 shot advantage for the game and scored on five of their seven shots in the second half.

After Clancy gave BSU a 7-6 lead at the 28:28 mark of the second half, Framingham junior attack Heather Masse (Billerica, Mass.) quickly tied the score just 50 seconds later. The Rams, however, would not threaten with even a shot the over the final 27 ½ minutes.  Clancy notched the game-winner at 22:57 followed by back-to-back markers by Appleman.  Lannon capped off the scoring with 4:07 remaining.

BSU freshman netminder Jessica Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) posted her first collegiate win for the hosts as she made three saves, all in the first half.  Sophomore Rebecca Rixan (Stow, Mass.) turned aside seven shots in the loss for the Rams.

The Bears also held a 12-6 edge in controlled draws, while the Rams were whistled for 29 fouls and picked up five yellow cards.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts NEWLA foe Becker College on Saturday at noon.  Framingham entertains league rival Worcester State University on Saturday also at noon.
