Women's Lacrosse Drops 16-5 Decision to Plymouth State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Plymouth State University posted a 16-5 victory over host Bridgewater State University in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday evening at Swenson Field.

Plymouth improves to 6-1 as the Panthers have won six straight games.  Bridgewater slips to 3-6 on the season.

Junior Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, N.H.) paced the visitors with four goals and an assist while freshman Meghan McNabb (Lexington, Mass.) added four markers.  Freshman Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) led all players with an impressive ten controlled draws.

The Panthers potted the first five goals of the game and never looked back.  Plymouth led 12-3 at the intermission and got up by as many as 11 goals in the second half including the final tally of 16-5.

Freshman Shannon Connerty (Nashua, N.H.) added three goals and an assist for the Panthers while sophomore McKenna Bay (Maracaibo, Venezuela) notched two goals and a pair of assists and freshman Amy MacDonald (Hull, Mass.) chipped in with three goals. 

PSU sophomore netminder Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H.) turned aside six shots to record her sixth win of the season.  Junior Kristen Guest (Sandwich, Mass.) led a solid defensive effort for the Panthers as she caused eight turnovers and scooped up six ground balls to go along with a pair of draws controls.  Guest also added an assist on the offensive end.

Senior Stephanie Lannon (Swampscott, Mass.), juniors Michelle Navoni (Mansfield, Mass.) and Sammi Salverio (Hanson, Mass.) and sophomores Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) tallied a goal apiece for the Bears.  Navoni added three caused turnovers and three draws.

Sophomore Victoria Moore (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshmen Jessica Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) and Katelyn Jeski (Dracut, Mass.) combined to make eight saves with Moore (3-4) being saddled with the loss.  Jeski played the final 9:55 and recorded two saves in her collegiate debut.

Plymouth held a 28-11 edge in shots as well as a 14-9 advantage in draw controls.  The Panthers also forced 23 BSU turnovers.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater entertains New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance foe Framingham State University on Thursday night at seven.  Plymouth takes on Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at four.
