Women's Lacrosse Falls to 13th Ranked Tufts, 19-2

MEDFORD, Mass. - The #13 ranked Tufts University women's lacrosse team scored seven goals in the first eight minutes of the game and went on to defeat previously unbeaten Bridgewater State University, 19-2, in a non-conference game at Bello Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Eleven different players scored goals for Tufts, who improved to 7-3 overall. The Jumbos were led by two goals and five assists from junior Lara Kozin (Suffern, NY) and three goals with three assists from junior Casey Egan (Massapequa, NY).

The visiting Bears (10-1) got one goal apiece from juniors Taylor Wiedemann (Pembroke, MA) and Kristin White (Pelham, MA), both on free position shots.

Tufts led 13-0 at halftime. Egan and junior Kelly Hyland (Acton, MA) both scored three times in the first 30 minutes. Kozin had all five of her assists in the first half, including helpers on all three of Egan's goals. The Jumbos had advantages of 26-8 in shots, 13-7 in ground balls and 9-5 in draw controls for the half.

Wiedemann broke up the shutout for Bridgewater by scoring the first goal of the second half at 24:56. The Jumbos ran off the next six goals to lead 19-1, including the first collegiate goals by first year Kelly Cohen (Framingham, MA) at 17:40 and by sophomore Meg Boland (New Canaan, CT) at 4:48. Cohen scored another at 9:59 of the second half. White finished the scoring for Bridgewater at 1:54.

Jumbos Emily Pillemer (Arlington, MA) and Sterling Champion (Lighthouse Point, FL) both scored their first two goals of the season. Cohen and Champion paced Tufts with three ground balls each. Junior Kelly Cakert (Sudbury, MA) controlled four draws and Pillemer caused three turnovers. Senior goalie Sara Bloom (Summit, NJ) stopped all five Bridgewater shots on goal in the first half to record the victory.

Senior Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, MA) scooped a game-high four ground balls for BSU. First years Taylor Clancy (Braintree, MA) and Braylan Wenzel (Buzzards Bay, MA) both caused two turnovers and had one draw control. In her first action of the season, Bridgewater first year goalie Victoria Moore (Duxbury, MA) made eight saves in 48:20 of play.

The Jumbos host another non-conference game on Thursday against Endicott at 4 pm. Bridgewater plays at Plymouth State on Thursday at 4 pm.
