Women's Lacrosse Cruises to Eighth Straight Win

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University Bears posted a 19-3 win over New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) foe Fitchburg State University on Saturday night at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

The game marked the conference opener for both teams.  Bridgewater remains unbeaten on the season as the Bears improve to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the NEWLA.  Fitchburg falls to 4-1 and 0-1 in league play.

Junior attack Kristin White (Pelham, Mass.) paced the Bears as she scored five goals and added a pair of assists.  Bridgewater held a 33-11 shot advantage for the game as well as a 16-8 edge in draw controls.

Senior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.) added four goals for the defending NEWLA champion Bears, while senior midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with two goals, two assists and two draws. 

Bridgewater also received two goals, an assist, three ground balls and three draws from senior midfielder Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) as well as three goals and two ground balls from sophomore attack Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.).  Senior netminder Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) turned aside five shots between the pipes.

After spotting Fitchburg an early 1-0 lead, the Bears put the game well out of reach with 12 straight goals to head to the intermission with a 12-1 advantage.  White scored four goals and assisted on two others in the opening stanza.  The Falcons also notched the first goal of the second half, but Bridgewater responded with four in a row to jump ahead 16-2.

Sophomore midfielder Samantha Bonasera (Chelsea, Vt.) led the way for Fitchburg with a goals and an assist.  Freshman Dlyana Drolette (Burlington, Vt.) made five saves in goal for the Falcons.

Bridgewater will travel to Westfield State University on Thursday evening for a seven o'clock NEWLA matchup with the Owls.  Fitchburg hosts NEWLA rival Elms College on Wednesday night also at seven.
