St. Lawrence Rallies for 16-15 Win over Women's Lacrosse

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- In collegiate women's lacrosse action, St. Lawrence University scored the final five goals of the contest as the Saints rallied for a 16-15 win over Bridgewater State College this evening in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The game marked the season opener for St. Lawrence, while Bridgewater State dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

Freshman attack Brigid Hurley (Penfield, NY) paced the Saints with four goals, while sophomore attack Alanna Pirolo (Black River, NY) found the back of the net three times.

Junior midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) tallied two goals and three assists for Bridgewater State, while junior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) scored four goals and senior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA) added two goals, two assists and five draws.

With her four goals, Jones moved past Ann Silvia into fifth place on the Bears' all-time goal scoring list as she now has 147 in her career.  Silvia scored 145 goals from 1997 to 2000.  Lennon's three assists increased her career total to 60 as she moved past Silvia (59 assists) into fourth place all-time at BSC.

Also for the Bears, senior attack Katie DeMaio (Port Jefferson Station, NY) chipped in with three goals and junior defender Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, MA) notched a goal, a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

With the scored tied at 11-11, Bridgewater State scored four straight times, capped off by a DeMaio goal with 6:51 remaining, as the Bears seemed to take control of the game.

Down 15-11, Hurley netted three unanswered goals in a 3 1/2 minute stretch to pull the Saints to within one.  Senior attack Mary Jane Sweetland (Hopewell, NJ) then potted the game-tying goal with just 1:06 left.  Hurley, who had not scored over the first 55 minutes of the game, capped off the amazing comeback as she notched her fourth goal of the day with just 16 seconds remaining.

Junior Anna Marchand (Concord, MA) turned aside seven shots to pick up the win in goal for St. Lawrence.  Bridgewater State senior netminder Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) made 11 saves between the pipes for the Bears.

St. Lawrence outshot Bridgewater State by a margin of 36-25.  The Saints also held a 20-13 advantage in draws.
