Women's Lacrosse Falls to Trinity, 19-3

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Senior Sarah Remes (Silver Springs, MD) scored four goals to lead the No. 8-ranked Trinity College Bantams to a 19-3 win over the Bridgewater State College Bears in the opening round of the NCAA Div. III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this afternoon on Robin Sheppard Field.

Trinity improves to 14-3 on the season, establishing a new program record for wins, while Bridgewater State ends their season with a 15-5 mark.  Trinity advances to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament for the second time in four years.

Trinity jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 7:20 before Bridgewater first-year Michelle Navoni (Mansfield, MA) found the back of the net to put the Bears on the board.  The Bantams answered with a 9-0 run, highlighted by three goals from Remes, giving Trinity a 13-1 lead at the midpoint.

Junior Caitlin Irvine (Westwood, MA) scored three goals for the Bantams and classmate Alisen Urquhart (Redding, CT) had a standout game, collecting a goal, three assists, three draw controls, and two ground balls. Junior Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead, NH), who had missed five games due to injury, returned to score two goals in limited second half action, joining sophomore Liz Bruno (Andover, MA) and senior Kristen Phelps (Sudbury, MA), as multi-goal scorers in the match.  Bruno also caused three turnovers.

Trinity sophomore Stephanie Fisher (Brunswick, ME) earned the win, improving to a perfect 6-0 on the season, combining for three saves with first-year goaltender Olivia Whitney (Danvers, MA).

Bridgewater senior goalkeeper Meghan Griffin (Billerica, MA) made nine saves for the Bears as she eclipsed BSC's single-season saves record.  Griffin ends the 2010 campaign with 194 saves, two more than Karen Rapchuck's previous school mark of 192 set in 1986.

Trinity will travel to Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania on Sat. May 15 for a 2:30 p.m. match against No.-7 ranked Stevens Tech.   The Bantams, playing in their sixth NCAA National Tournament, lost to Babson in 2008, and defeated Endicott College
