Women's Lacrosse Falls to Roger Williams, 18-9

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Bridgewater State College dropped an 18-9 decision to Roger Williams University in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon from BSC's Swenson Field.

The Bears fall to 7-4 as their seven-game winning streak came to an end.  Roger Williams improves to 8-2 on the season as the Hawks have won four straight games and eight of the last nine.

Sophomore attack Claire Halliday (Trenton, NJ) paced RWU with a ten-point performance as she tallied five goals and five assists.  Junior goaltender Amanda Magee (Columbus, NJ) was terrific between the pipes making 19 saves on the afternoon.

Roger Williams jumped out to a 5-1 lead and carried a 7-4 advantage into the intermission.  Bridgewater State sophomore attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) opened the second half with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 7-6.  The Hawks, however, would tally the next seven goals as they held the Bears scoreless for almost 16 minutes to take control of the game.

Junior attack Natasha Billie (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) added four goals for Roger Williams, while fellow junior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, CT) chipped in with two goals, three assists, four ground balls, three controlled draws and two caused turnovers.  Sophomore attack Kate Malenczak (Sayville, NY) also scored four goals off the bench for the Hawks.

Jones finished with three goals for the Bears while junior attack Katie DeMaio (Port Jefferson Station, NY) also netted three goals.  Sophomore attack Courtney Lennon (Medfield, MA) added two goals and an assist to go along with five ground balls.

BSC held a 34-30 edge in shots as well as a slight 16-15 advantage in draws controlled.  Fouls were even at 26 apiece, while the Bears committed 22 turnovers compared to 23 for the Hawks. Seven yellow cards were also assessed in the game.

Both teams will host non-conference games on Thursday afternoon at 4 PM.  Bridgewater State will take on Salve Regina University, while Roger Williams will battle Rhode Island College.
