Lauryn Serratore Named NEWLA Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior midfielder Lauryn Serratore has been named the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Player of the Week.

Serratore led BSC to a 2-1 record last week as she scored ten goals to go along with one assist, eight ground balls, an impressive 25 draw controls and four caused turnovers.

The Norwood, Massachusetts native tallied four goals, four ground balls, seven draw controls, and two caused turnovers against Little East Conference champion Eastern Connecticut State University.  She then notched two goals, five draw controls and two ground balls in BSC's 22-2 win over Rhode Island College. 

Serratore capped off the week by scoring four goals and dishing out an assist in Bridgewater's 21-9 victory over Plymouth State University as the Bears snapped a nine-game losing streak versus the Panthers.  Serratore also recorded an impressive 13 draw controls as well as two ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win over Plymouth.

Through 16 games this season, Serratore leads the NEWLA in draw controls with 63 and is tied for first in game-winning goals with three.  She needs six draw controls to tie and seven to break the school mark of 69 draw controls which was set by Corinne Baker in 2002.

Bridgewater State wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 12-4.  The Bears finished a perfect 7-0 in NEWLA play as they captured the regular season title and the top seed for the conference tournament which gets underway on Wednesday, April 30th.

BSC hosts fourth seeded Westfield State College on Wednesday at 3:30.  The winner advances to the NEWLA championship game which will take place on Saturday at 2 PM.
