Kylie Grassi Named to NEWBA Team of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University junior guard Kylie Grassi has been selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Team of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Grassi averaged 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot in a 2-1 week for the Bears while shooting 81.3% (13-16) at the free throw line.

Grassi scored 18 points, including the 1,000th of her career, and added three rebounds, three assists, five steals and two blocks in a 71-33 MASCAC victory over MCLA. She also poured in 27 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block in a 66-55 conference win on the road over Worcester State University, and tallied 13 points, a rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 70-52 setback to WPI.

Through 17 games this season, Grassi is averaging 21.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals. She is also shooting 45% (125-278) from the floor, 32.4% (23-571) from three-point range and 76.4% (97-127) at the free throw line.

Grassi currently leads the MASCAC in scoring, made field goals and made free throws, and ranks second in minutes played (37.4 mpg). She is also fourth among the conference leaders in free throw shooting, fifth in field goal percentage and made three-pointers as well as sixth in three-point percentage and blocks (0.7 bpg).

On a national level, Grassi is presently fourth in all of Division III in made free throws and ninth in made field goals. She is also 14th nationally in scoring and 18th in minutes played.

In 66 games over her first three seasons with the Bears, Grassi has amassed 1,037 points, 276 rebounds, 154 assists, 40 blocks and 128 steals.

The NEWBA Team of the Week honor marks the 11th of Grassi's career.

The BSU women's basketball team is currently 8-9 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to conference foe Fitchburg State University on Wednesday evening for a five o'clock game with the Falcons.
