Four Bears Named to CSC Academic All-District® One Women's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Four members of the Bridgewater State University women's basketball program have been selected to the 2022-2023 Academic All-District® One Division III Women's Basketball Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Earning the honor from Bridgewater State are senior guards Sydney Bradbury and Kylee Piche, senior forward Sophia Gaucher and sophomore forward Kylie Grassi

Joining the four Bears on the Academic All-District® One Division III Women's Basketball Team from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) are Westfield State University graduate forward Jenn Rennich and sophomore guard Maddie Pond.

The 2022-2023 Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. A student-athlete must have also played in at least 50% of her team's contests for the 2022-2023 season.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

Bradbury is a health studies major with a 3.67 grade point average. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product is averaging 11.9 points. 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 25 games (24 starts) this season while shooting 33.1% (60-181) from behind the arc. She ranks second in the MASCAC in made three-pointers (60), fourth in three-point shooting percentage and tenth in assists. A 2021-2022 All-MASCAC Second Team selection, Bradbury is currently fifth all-time in BSU women's basketball history in three-point shooting (.346) and seventh in made three-pointers (119).

A native of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Piche is majoring in management and checks in with a 3.69 GPA. She is averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals in 25 games (all starts) this season while shooting 45.5% (92-202) from the floor. Piche is presently seventh among the conference leaders in field goal percentage.

Gaucher, who hails from Lakeville, Massachusetts, currently sports a 3.52 GPA while majoring in psychology. She has played in 23 games this season with 22 starts and is averaging 8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 49% (74-151) from the floor, 42.6% (20-47) from three-point range and 78.3% (36-46) at the free throw line. Gaucher ranks fifth in the MASCAC in field goal percentage, eighth in rebounding and ninth in offensive rebounding (2.6 rpg).

A Plymouth, Massachusetts product, Grassi is majoring in health science and checks in with a 3.52 GPA. In 24 games this season (all starts), she is averaging 17.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, three assists and 2.1 steals while shooting 43.5% (141-324) from the floor, 30.8% (24-78) from three-point range and 81% (115-142) at the charity stripe. Grassie is currently second in the conference in scoring and free throw shooting, sixth in steals, eighth in assists and blocked shots (0.7 bpg) and ninth in both field goals percentage and three-point shooting. She was named to the All-MASCAC Second Team as a rookie in 2021-2022.

Bradbury, Piche and Gaucher have each played three seasons in a BSU uniform. Bradbury has amassed 709 points, 256 rebounds, 166 assists, 15 blocks and 79 steals in 71 games, while Piche has accumulated 559 points, 268 rebounds, 167 assists, 13 blocks and 107 steals in 75 games. Gaucher checks in with 393 points, 260 rebounds, 94 assists, 13 blocks and 49 steals over 58 games.

Grassi is in her second season at Bridgewater State as she has recorded 627 points, 186 rebounds, 107 assists, 27 blocks and 83 steals in 46 career games.

Bradbury, Piche, Gaucher and Grassi have helped the BSU women's basketball team post a 19-6 record to date in 2022-2023 and capture the MASCAC regular season title with a 10-2 conference mark. The Bears are the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Thursday night at 7:30.
