Destiny Fitzgerald Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman forward Destiny Fitzgerald has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Medford, Massachusetts, Fitzgerald averaged 10.5 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots in two games last week at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. She also shot 64.3% (9-14) from the floor.

Fitzgerald tallied 20 points, seven boards, an assist, a steal and five blocks in a 57-52 setback to Bridgewater College (Va.). She also recorded seven rebounds and three blocks in a 53-43 victory over Wellesley College.

Through 11 games this season, Fitzgerald is averaging ten points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.6% (45-89) from the floor. She presently ranks third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and fourth in blocked shots.

The BSU women's basketball team is currently 3-8 on the season. The Bears entertain non-conference rival UMass Boston on Thursday evening at 5:30.
