Colleen Feeney Named MASCAC Player of the Year

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior center Colleen Feeney has been selected as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year in all-conference voting results released by MASCAC Commissioner, Angela Baumann.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Feeney has already set the Bears' single-season scoring record as she has totaled 512 points on the year.  Feeney surpassed Samantha Curry's previous school record of 486 points set in 2005-20006.

Through 25 games, Feeney is averaging 20.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 2.8 blocked shots per game, while shooting 56% from the floor and 74% at the free throw line.  She currently leads the MASCAC in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots, while ranking second in free throw percentage.  Feeney is also sixth in all of Division III in rebounding, 11th in scoring, 12th in blocked shots and 19th overall in field goal percentage.

Feeney also within shouting distance of the BSC women's basketball single-season records for rebounds (331 by Cathy Baker in 1984-85), made free throws (155 by Laurie Berryman in 1995-96), made field goals (194 by Samantha Curry in 2005-06), and blocked shots (79 by Mary Cawley in 1987-88).  She currently has 325 boards, 146 free throws, 183 field goals and 70 blocked shots on the season.

Feeney was named MASCAC Player of the Week an impressive six times this season.  She was also named the ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week twice and was selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on two occasions as well.

Just recently, Feeney was named a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy which honors the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year, considering basketball ability, academic prowess and community service.

Bridgewater State will be competing in the MASCAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday versus long-time rival Salem State.  Tip-off is slated for 2 PM at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.  The top-seeded Bears knocked off fifth seed Westfield State, 70-60, in the tournament semifinals on Friday night.  Bridgewater is 21-4 on the season as they are looking to capture the program's first ever conference tournament title and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since the 1985-86 season.
