BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman designated player Makayla Ansell has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.
Ansell batted .429 in a 4-2 week for the Bears last week with a triple, a stolen base, three runs and five RBI. The Menifee, California native went 3-for-8 with a triple, stolen base, two runs and three RBI in a MASCAC sweep of Salem State; 3-for-7 with a run and two RBI in non-conference sweep of Vermont State Lyndon; and 3-for-6 in a pair of MASCAC setbacks to Fitchburg State.
In 23 games this season, Ansell is batting .355 (22-63) with three doubles, a pair of triples, three stolen bases, five sacrifice bunts, 12 runs scored and ten RBI. She has also been hit by a pitch twice and checks in with a .385 on base percentage as well as a .468 slugging percentage.
Ansell is tied for third among the MASCAC leaders in sacrifice bunts and tied for seventh in getting hit by a pitch.
The BSU softball team is currently 14-12 on the season and 5-3 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain Suffolk University in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.
