Game Six: #4 Fitchburg State 3, #6 Worcester State 0

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- The fourth seeded Falcons of Fitchburg State University defeated the sixth seeded Lancers of Worcester State University, 3-0, this afternoon in semifinal round action of the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Maple Street Field.

The Falcons (26-15) advance to the third day of tournament play and will take on the Rams of Framinghsm State University in an elimination game tomorrow at Bridgewater State, starting at 11:00 AM. The Lancers conclude their 2019 season with an overall record of 9-32.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as freshman Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) singled to left field to plate senior Michelle LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass.) for the 1-0 edge.

The Falcons doubled their margin (2-0) in the bottom half of the third when newcomer Olivia Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) laced an RBI single to right that brought home Johnson. The Green and Gold tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as senior Maddie Medina  (Pelham, N.H.) ripped a single to left that scored classmate Samantha Woodman (Essex, Mass.), resulting in the 3-0 final.

Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI. Michaela Keenan (Boston, Mass.) added a pair of hits for the Green and Gold.

Haley Scola (Worcester, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double for the Lancers.

Mikayla Harnois (Attleboro, Mass.) earned the win for Fitchburg State, allowing just five hits with six K’s in the complete game shutout.

Rachel Frisch (Worcester, Mass.) took the loss for Worcester State, yielding three runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Notes: The Falcons tie program record for most wins in a season with their 26th victory on the season.
