White, Dunn Lead Softball to MASCAC Sweep of Framingham

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University Bears received a pair of solid pitching performances from junior Amber White (Middleboro, Mass.) and senior Meghan Dunn (Colchester, Conn.) as they defeated the Framingham State University Rams 1-0 and 2-0 this afternoon in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) softball doubleheader at Farley Field.

With the victories Bridgewater State improves to 22-14 on the year and 11-3 in the MASCAC which secures them the MASCAC Softball Regular Season Title and the top seed in next week's MASCAC Softball Championship Tournament.  The Rams finish the regular season 9-29 overall and 6-8 in the MASCAC.

White held the Rams to just one hit, a single by sophomore Tiffany Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) in the first inning, and did not walk a batter while recording six strikeouts in the opener.  She retired each of the last 19 batters she faced.

Senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) was equally impressive in the circle for the Rams as she went seven innings and surrendered just one unearned run on two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

The Bears scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning as senior Brianna DeNucci (Newton, Mass.) reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Junior Jill Welch (Hubbardston, Mass.) followed with a bunt single and was caught in a run down between first and second.  During the run down, DeNucci scampered home with the game's lone run.

In the second game, Framingham State freshman Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) dueled with Bridgewater's Dunn in the circle as the game was scoreless through six innings.

The Bears were able to push across a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on a two RBI double by sophomore Jessica Laudati (Berkley, Mass.) to record their second shutout win of the day.

Dunn held the Rams to just two hits, both singles by freshman Taylor McGrail (Worcester, Mass.), with two walks and four strikeouts as she evened her season record at 9-9.

Ferri went the distance for the Rams allowing just the two runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Framingham is the sixth seeded in the next week's MASCAC Softball Championship Tournament and will travel to third-seeded Worcester State University on Thursday afternoon to take on the Lancers at 5:00 PM.  Bridgewater receives an opening round bye and will host the remainder of the tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
